Memorial Day will be an especially unique occasion for two men who live in Rancho Santa Fe this year. “Hold At All Costs — The Battle for Outpost Harry,” a documentary produced by Bob Baker and filmmaker Glenn Palmedo-Smith, who call Rancho Santa Fe home, will show at 9 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th on San Diego's KPBS television, at 2 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31st and 3 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1st. The film details the eight-day battle between U.S. and United Nations forces in the Korean War in June 1953 fought against North Korean and Chinese troops. Interviews with survivors, combine with dramatizations and commentary by historians, political figures and military leaders bring the story to life. Baker's grandfather fought in that battle and he wanted to record the event for his posterity and have his grandfather's story recounted. That battle included a nightly barrage of 80,000 heavy artillery shells and fighting also took place in trenches, hand-to-hand, with knives, bayonets, and grenades, causing heavy casualties on both sides. The importance of the battle was that it kept Seoul, the South Korean capital from being invaded. To find out more, please click here.
