Last week Assistant Golf Pro Matt Gibbens, of the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, won the 2010 Callaway Section PGA Assistant Championship at East Valley Golf Course in Beaumont. Although he has often been found, over the last four years, in the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club Pro Shop, Givens spent his time away from the clubhouse winning the one-day match. A great game, complete with a two-stroke on the 36th hole secured his victory.
The win will allow him to compete in November’s National PGA Championship. That event will be held in Florida on November 11-14. Gibbens wasn't alone in representing Rancho Santa Fe assistant golf pros. Fellow RSFGC Assistant Golf Pro Mark Summerville and well-known locals Chris Hoggan, Shay Blechynden, and Sheldon Callahan played great games, as well.
